Welcome to Science
‘Millions saw the apple fall, but Newton asked why’ (Bernad Baruch)
In an ever-changing world, we are constantly being asked to make decisions which invlove an understanding of Science. At Shene School, we aim to equip students with the skills required to access the Science within their everyday lives and develop curiosity in the world around them.
With the advent of the new Programme of Study at Key Stage 4 from 2007 the Science Department has undergone exciting changes at Key Stage 3 beginning 2008. The Key Stage 3 Science Curriculum is taught in ability groups. The curriculum is based on the QCA Schemes of Work.
We strongly believe in developing all students, offering fully differentiated courses throughout the school with three different GCSEs available, both core and additional.
All pupils study Science at GCSE as part of the AQA programme, some may choose Triple Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). The Core and Additional Science course follows a traditional Science curriculum which is linked heavily with current affairs and research in Science.
Students are taught in tiered groups in Key Stage 4, in well-maintained and equipt laboratories, the department also has a interactive whiteboard in every classroom.
We are currentlym involved in an exciting Teaching and Learning Gatsby project to promote teaching through active learning.
With more and more jobs requiring Science and exicting opportunities offered by technological advances, Science is a fast moving, challenging but rewarding subject.
