Welcome to the ICT Department:
The ICT Department has the responsibility of ensuring that all pupils gain the essential skills and qualifications that we believe are vital to life in school and beyond. All pupils have discrete ICT lessons, in all years, and are prepared for a recognised qualification in ICT. Pupils are also encouraged to use their ICT skills in all subject areas whenever possible. All curriculum areas incorporate ICT within their Scheme of Work for all year groups.

Key Stage 3 ICT:
Year 7 & Year 8 pupils follow a carousel timetable which includes ICT, Food Technology, Resistant Materials and Textiles. They have two one hour IT lessons per week to explore major applications and usage of ICT found in the ‘real’ world. Year 9 pupils have a one hour lesson per week.
Using the new KS3 National Strategy materials for ICT pupils develop their skills and knowledge of models and modelling, data handling and information sources, control, communication, refining and presenting information, sequencing instructions and analysing processes.

Key Stage 4 ICT:
Students will follow the OCR Level 2 Nationals in ICT starting in Year 10 as an option to gain the essential skills and qualifications for further post 16 education.
OCR Level 2 Nationals in ICT:
- OCR National in ICT is an ideal preparation for a technological world in which ICT touches every part of our daily lives. This user course will develop our pupil’s practical ICT skills and extend their knowledge and understanding of ICT applications.
- The course is based on practical work and problem solving and will involve them in developing real life ICT solutions.
QUALIFICATION STRUCTURE:

ASSESSMENT AND GRADING:
All units are centre-assessed and externally moderated by OCR. There are no timetabled exams for this qualification. The full award and units from this qualification are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction, equivalent to a GCSE.
